Whether you have completed your CERT training or not, come to a meeting to find out more about us. 
 
Franklin County CERT meets the second Sunday of each month at 5:00pm.  Occasionally we change time or location for special training, so be sure to check the meeting schedule below for the newest information.

May 18, 2008 5PM at the EMA office The health department will be on hand to discuss biological agents that have the potential to spread disease.  We will talk about the importance of handwashing and personal protective equipment (ppe).     
   
Additional Training Opportunities Occasionally we receive notice about other training opportunities that may interest our members. Listed below are some that may interest you. 
 
Franklin County EMA is sponsoring a Threat & Risk Assessment Class.  It will be held June 3-5 from 8AM - 5PM at the EMA office.  There is no charge to attend the class.  The class will prepare responder managers and community leaders to be able to conduct a cpmprehensive capabilities-based threat and risk assessment for a Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism Incident.  Please contact Pam Tickle by May 15 if you are interested in attending.  Her number is 614.794.0213.

Sunday April 13, 2008 We discussed Family Preparedness with the Health Department. 
 
March meeting canceled due to weather 
 
February 10, 2008 IS-100 was taught.  ID cards were available for anyone who met criteria and did not pick them up in January.  Pictures were taken for those that needed them. 
 
January 13, 2008   We discussed member responsibilities and things that we will be doing in 2008.  ID cards for members who have met the requirements were distributed. 
 
December 9, 2007 "Get to know your team" with a potluck dinner.    
 
November 11, 2007 CPR / AED certification was trained.  The response was great.  Check back later in 2008 for another class.   
 
October 14, 2007 Rick Roush from the Health Department talked about preparing for a pandemic flu outbreak.  We learned what is needed to prepare individually, plus what is being done at the Health Department for all of Franklin County.  
 
September 9, 2007 We continued our review of the topics trained in the 20 hour training.  We will also heard from some CERT members who were involved with the county wide drill. 
 
August 12, 2007 5PM at the EMA We reviewed some of the topics that were trained in the 20 hours training.  Emphasis was spent on those topics that seem to confuse people because they are new and are not a natural part of our day to day living.   
 
July 8, 2007 5PM at the EMA We discussed the CERT standard operating procedures for communicaiton radios.  
 
June 10, 2007 - Alert citizens can provide far more eyes in the community than the police can. Citizen participation is essential in our fight against terrorism.  We reviewed each of the seven signs of terrorism, showing where the terrorists are vulnerable, and where citizens being alert can help prevent the terrorist act from taking place. 
 
 
May 5, 2007  We discussed ways that volunteer organizations such as CERT can assist in a search and rescue case.  We reviewed search tactic and touched on how to be observant if we should encounter anything that could be used as evidence.   
 
April 15, 2007   The topic of discussion was Structural Assessment.  A structural engineer from Dublin guided us through assessing structural damage after a disaster.  This will help us determine the safety of a building while we perform search and rescue.  
 
March 11, 2007  
Sandbag training at Columbus Sewerage and Drainage Division.  Similar to the training that was held last year.  We learned how to use equipment to effectively fill sandbags in the event of a flood, or any other disaster where sandbags would be useful.    
 
February 11, 2007 
We will be meeting at the Franklin County EMA office on Strawberry Farms Blvd.  We will be discussing opportunities that Franklin County CERT may be involved in during this year.  We will also be discussing roles of the members.  If there are any questions that you have about Franklin County CERT, this is the time and the place to ask them.  
 
January 20, 2007 
A Volunteer Recption Center training was held with other Citizen Corp Agencies.  It was a good exercise for all.  For more information, contact Firstlink of Central Ohio at 614.221.6766.  
 
December 10, 2006 CERT Potluck 
 
November 12, 2006  Monthly CERT meeting.  Franklin County EMA office 5:00 PM.  Spanish phrases for disaster situations.  Please bring your CERT kits, we will also be going over what is necessary to maintain in your kits. 
 
October 8, 2006 Sharon Township Police Department instructed us on the fundamentals of traffic control.  Among other tasks, CERT members may be called upon to direct traffic during emergency situations.  
 
September 10, 2006Training topic was basic map reading skills.   
 
August 13, 2006 Disaster Exercise, Central Crossing High School 
 
July 2006 No meeting in July  
 
June 11, 2006 at the Franklin County EMA. The discussion topic is disaster psychology.   
 
April 9, 2006 - April Meeting location Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Office. Training topic is Care, Proper Use, and Safety of Chainsaws. Expected training length 1/2 hour. Executive committee will meet one hour prior.   
 
March 12, 2006 - March training for CERT members will be conducted at the Franklin County Emergency Management and Homeland Security Office 1250 Fairwood Ave. (City of Columbus Yard) to learn how to operate machines that fill sandbags. There has been a need for this skill during some of the recent floods in Columbus and surrounding communities. This training will give our team additional opportunities to help locally. Plan on two hours. Dress for outside work and bring CERT kit. Executive committee will meet one half hour prior.
